Q As a reminder, this week’s assignment is a presentation. As noted in the icebreaker activity, you may find it helpful to imagine that the reader of your proposal liked what you presented and asked you to build a presentation for a wider group of decision-makers within the organization. Before completing this activity, be sure to review your readings and videos for this module. You can find the readings and module notes by clicking the links below: • Module 8 Learning Materials • Module Notes: Types of Presentations • Module Notes: Preparing a Presentation Let's Talk The goal of this discussion is to reveal your overall approach for your presentation and get feedback from your peers on the direction you’ve chosen. Step 1: Consider Your Purpose and Audience Begin with your purpose. What is it that you want your audience to think, feel, do, or believe after seeing your presentation? Then, think about your audience. Is it the same person for whom you wrote your proposal? If so, how does this person’s needs change with the shift from a text-based approach to a visual approach? Would it make sense that other people might see the presentation, too? Why or why not? Step 2: Consider the Overall Approach As you learned in the readings this week, a good presentation—like an effective document—follows a structured approach. Take a few minutes to consider the outline of your presentation. In what order should the information be presented, given your purpose and audience? Step 3: Create and Share a Draft Presentation When you are ready to make your initial posting, click the “Reply” button. Attach your rough draft (either the native file or a screenshot of your work so far) for your classmates to view. Please attach a draft presentation that demonstrates the color scheme and graphic design approach you plan to take with your presentation. This could be a PowerPoint file, a screenshot, or a link to a presentation in a web-based tool. What you post for this element will depend on the presentation tool you chose in the icebreaker. This week’s response must be in written format. In total, your initial response this week should not exceed 150 words. Step 4: Connect with Your Classmates and Instructors Respond to the initial posts of at least three classmates. In your responses to your classmates, provide constructive feedback to help them develop their presentation ideas more fully. Do your best to view your classmates' ideas through the lens of their intended audience members. Is your classmate’s plan appropriate and effective? How do you know? Your peer and/or instructor responses should be posted in written format. Evaluation The TECH200 Discussion Rubric explains how you will be graded. The discussions combined are worth 20% of your final grade.
